23snaps Tip of the Week: Android Video Hacks
Many Android devices are well known for taking very high quality photos and videos, which is great! But there is a downside … it makes the video files absolutely enormous. On 23snaps, the maximum file size for a video upload is 20mb, this is to enable you to quickly and easily upload your content wherever you are. We want to show you how to get the most out of you Android video camera within this limit using tools that are already built into your device.
Trimming a video
Locate the video that you plan to upload to 23snaps in your device’s gallery* (go to the gallery directly, there is no need to open 23snaps yet). If you tap the screen you will see various options appear, select the Trim functionality. You are then able to drag the sliders to highlight the shorter section of video you wish to use. Once you’re done making your selection, simply click Done. This process will save a new copy of your video. You will still have a copy of the full length original video, so there is no need to duplicate your file first.
Although it is not possible to see the size of the cropped section of video during the trimming process, you are able to check the size of the file first and you can figure out how much to trim accordingly. For example, if you video is 60 seconds long and 30mb, you will need to reduce the file size by 1/3. This means that you will need to reduce the video length by about the same amount. In this example that would mean trimming off 20 seconds to leave a video 40 seconds long. To find this information just tap on the “Options” button on your device, then select Details.
Reducing Video Quality
It is also possible to restrict the quality of the video that you record on an Android, this is turn reduces the file size, but you do need to remember to do this before you press record! Open up your device’s camera* and on the right hand side of the screen you will see various options, tap on the gear icon. Then select the video camera icon and select Limit for MMS. This will reduce the quality of the video that you record on this occasion, but once the camera is closed, it will revert to the high quality default.
Either of these options should enabled you to upload a much larger selection of your videos to 23snaps from your Android device.
