23snaps Tip of the Week: Downloading 23snaps to Older iOS Devices
With many people receiving new tech for Christmas, lots of their friends and relatives have been lucky enough to inherit their older devices, such as a 1st Generation iPad. Unfortunately Apple seem to have forgotten about the thousands of people that still use these older devices, as demonstrated by the fact that their newest operating system isn’t compatible with this particular device.
As an app developer, we need to develop along with the operating systems of companies like Apple, but we don’t want to leave those of you with slightly older devices out in the cold! So whilst our most recent app update does require iOS7, you can still download the latest compatible version of 23snaps for your device even if you are unable to update your operating system.
When you go to the App Store, you should always be given the option to download the latest compatible version of the 23snaps app. However we’ve discovered a slight glitch in Apple’s systems that will prevent you from downloading this version of the app unless you have downloaded 23snaps in the past. But don’t worry! we have a couple of work arounds that are tried and tested …
If you are new to 23snaps (welcome!) you can get past this issue in 1 of 2 ways.
1) If you have access to a newer Apple device, use it to log into your iTunes account and download the latest version of 23snaps first. Once the app has been downloaded from your account once, you will be able to gain access to the last compatible version on your iPad.
2) Ask a friend or family member that also uses the 23snaps app to sign in to their iTunes account on your iPad and download the app on your behalf. This will not affect their 23snaps app or account in any way. Once the app is installed on your iPad, they can log out of their iTunes account. Your app will not be linked with theirs.
We’ve tested both of these processes and they worked perfectly for us, but if you do experience any issues, just drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we’ll do our best to find another solution, specifically for you!
